A “ROLA” (Rolling Road) train in Austria.

The I-70 Truck Train is a proposed “rolling road” that would carry all types of trucks and semitrailers on trains between Denver and Grand Junction.

The trucks would be loaded at terminals in Denver and Grand Junction and transported by piggyback on special low-floor wagons. The drivers would then travel in one or two dedicated passenger cars that provide on-board food and drinks service, comfortable seating to relax in and even beds for overnight journeys.

With each train taking up to 70 trucks off I-70, the truck train has the capability to dramatically reduce crashes and greenhouse gas emissions in the mountains while allowing trucks to travel at all times of the week and in bad weather.

A similar “ROLA” (Rolling Road) service is operated by OBB (Austrian Railways) on two routes in the European Alps.
